Yes, it can hurt very badly, and cause inflammation and infection. It's called 'engorgement'. If you don't breastfeed, your body thinks the baby has died, and slowly stops to make the milk and opens up your fertility again to prepare you to have another baby quickly. But it can take a few days for the message to stop making milk to come through and for the milk to dry. So it is important, if you know you do not wish to let the baby have the breast, that you get good support post birth.

Totally do-able. Relactation at this point would be quite simple for you, and then the issue would be encouraging her back to the breast. If you search 'Karleen Gribble' and 'Jack Newman' on the web, with 'relactation' and 'back to the breast', you will get lots of hits. Jack is mainly on how to get baby back to the breast, Karleen on adoptive breasfteeding - which is the same as relactating for your own. 6 weeks mean you still have all the right hormones - you go girl, you can do this! :-)

yeah i heard that the breast keeps making milk, but it is not getting sucked out.. so the breast just get's really, really full... and that is gonna hurt at some point i guess |
